Reality Capture
The metrological capture of a real object as three-dimensional data.
Reality capture describes the metrological capture of a real object as three-dimensional data. In a building context this includes terrestrial laser scanning, mobile mapping, photogrammetry and drone capture.
The term covers more than the scanning itself. It covers preparation with a control point network and time windows, capture during operation, and post processing with registration, filtering and an accuracy record.
The choice of method follows the task. Terrestrial scanners reach 2 mm and suit plant areas and tight spaces. Mobile mapping reaches 5 mm and captures large areas in a single pass, up to 37,000 m² in one day. Drones handle envelopes and roofs.
