Gaussian Splatting

A method that computes a photorealistic, freely navigable view from imagery.

Gaussian splatting is a method that computes a photorealistic, freely navigable view of a space from many images. Unlike a point cloud, the result looks like a photograph from any angle.

The practical benefit is legibility. Only people who work with point clouds can read them. A Gaussian splat is understood by everyone in the project, from management to the person using the space.

For measurements and evidence the point cloud remains authoritative. Gaussian splatting complements it for alignment, presentation and walk-throughs; it does not replace it.
