Mesh

A triangle network derived from points that represents surfaces as closed faces.

A mesh is a triangle network derived from a point cloud. Individual points become closed surfaces.

The advantage is handling. A mesh is much smaller than the point cloud, loads faster and can be used in visualisation and game engines. For clash considerations with simple geometry it is sufficient.

The disadvantage is interpretation. The network smooths whatever lies between the points. For millimetre-accurate evidence the point cloud remains authoritative.
