Point cloud

The measurement itself: millions of three-dimensional points with coordinates and colour value.

A point cloud is the immediate result of a capture. Millions of points, each with coordinates and a colour value. It is the measurement, not the interpretation.

That makes the point cloud the most robust document in the project. It shows how the building stood on the day of capture and serves as evidence in every later discussion.

For design and operation it is not enough. A point cloud does not know that a wall is a wall. It cannot be queried, filtered or linked to properties. The same applies to AI models: a raw point cloud is a snapshot, not a data basis.

That is why qapture always delivers both. The point cloud as evidence, the structured model as a working basis. Common formats are E57, RCP and LAS.
