Georeferencing
Placing the capture correctly within an official coordinate system.
Georeferencing places the capture correctly within an official coordinate system. In Austria that is usually MGI or ETRS89, in Germany ETRS89 with UTM.
For this the team sets a control point network with a total station before scanning. Every station is referenced to those points. The accuracy record documents the deviation per control point.
Without georeferencing a capture only matches itself. With it, it matches every other capture of the same site, cadastral data, neighbouring buildings and every later construction phase. At Germany’s largest aviation company this is why 22 buildings sit in one shared coordinate system despite being captured at different times.
