    interventions in the protected fabric

Starting point

A listed parliament building has areas nobody can survey: roof structures, cavities, façade details twenty metres up.

Conventional survey needs access and contact. With protected fabric both are restricted.

Objective

  • Document hard-to-access and protected areas without intervening in the fabric.
  • Create a basis suitable for heritage conservation and design at the same time.

Approach

Laser scanning works contact-free. We captured terrestrially where access was possible and by drone where it was not.

The capture is georeferenced so interior and exterior data match.

Drawing derivations and an as-built model for the protected areas were derived from the point cloud.

What came of it

Areas that were previously undocumented now exist as data.

The capture serves heritage conservation and design as a shared reference.
